Lazarillo nació desde un propósito profundo: crear ediciones con sentido, capaces de mostrar lo invisible, educar con sensibilidad y abrir espacios de reflexión, empatía y conciencia. Sin embargo, esta no fue la idea inicial de nuestro proyecto.
Margarita Candia - Directora
Humana de Era y Lúa, y también de Bauer y Copito, quienes hoy viven en el cielo y siguen acompañándola desde otro lugar. Es curiosa por naturaleza, observadora y en constante aprendizaje. Profesora de vocación, con un Magíster en Psicopedagogía y diplomados en Neurociencias, Psicología Positiva y Bienestar, integra el conocimiento académico con una mirada humana y sensible. Su trabajo se caracteriza por el respeto por los ritmos individuales, el cuidado del vínculo y la convicción de que aprender puede —y debe— ser una experiencia significativa, amorosa y transformadora. Le apasiona profundamente el área de la inclusión y cree, por sobre todo, en ver a la persona antes que el diagnóstico. Desde esa convicción nace su deseo de crear una editorial inclusiva y entretenida, un espacio donde todas las infancias se sientan vistas, valoradas y capaces de aprender desde quienes son.
Our Story
Everything started after Bauer's passing, Margarita's first greyhound. At 12 years old, Bauer shared only 5 months with her — which changed her life forever. Our wish for the world to know greyhounds' kind, noble, fun, humble, VERY sleepyhead and couch-loving demeanor propelled us where we are today. It's just that having a greyhound in our life can change everything!
A cause in common
Margarita conoció a Valentina en un canil de perros en Santiago, cuando llevaron a sus perritas Lúa y Carlota a jugar. Lúa y Carlota eran hermanas biológicas y habían sido adoptadas luego de que valientes rescatistas lograran sacarlas de un lugar muy hostil en el que vivían junto a su mamá y sus hermanos. Ese día, mientras las perritas corrían y jugaban, intercambiaron sus contactos. Tiempo después, ya en pleno período de pandemia, comenzaron a escribirse por chat. Fue entonces cuando Margarita le dijo a Valentina: “Quiero hacer un libro para niños y niñas en el que el protagonista sea un galgo. ¿Puedes ayudarme?”. Así comenzó Ediciones Lazarillo, aunque en ese momento ninguna de las dos lo sabía. Valentina trabajó en Ediciones Lazarillo hasta el año 2024 y fue una parte fundamental en la creación y el desarrollo de este hermoso proyecto. Gracias, Valentina. 💛
Enjoying the process
Margarita made Bauer a promise. In order to bring it to life, she began telling everyone around her about her idea to write a book. That is how she met and motivated others to join this project to make her dream come true, which in time became the dream of other professionals, animal rescue foundations and veterinarias. Thanks to them we understood that combining our passion and knowledge would be the best way to reach this dream. Each one of them trusted our project and gave it their all. We learned that collaboration is at the center of our work.
Purpose
This is how we created Ediciones Lazarillo, a brand that seeks to be a bridge joining the causes we care about with our ultimate purpose: to erase the barriers to accessibility and to create opportunities for everyone. We see daily the struggle to include people in a world that belongs to all of us. That is the reason why we at Ediciones Lazarillo vow to design and create products and services that can be read and comprehended by everyone, respecting the autonomy of children. We choose to be different and to develop inclusive books.
Cause
Even though many aspects of this project have changed over time, our idea to turn Bauer's story into our cause remains intact. That is why we decided that every product we release works towards a positive change, and supports those who are already doing it.
